A. Bridesmaids might be the funniest movie I have seen in a long time. Holy Moly!!! I was disbelieving of all the hype but seriously, I cannot recommend it enough!

B. I have 5 year old movie syndrome. In other words, I get a good movie in my DVD player and it stays in there for a week, playing on repeat. This week, the movie was Ballet Shoes. It is set in the 30's, features cute cardiganed ensembles, and some catchy tunes. Each of the girls in the movie have a special necklace and one of the girls has this beautiful coral necklace. I'm fairly sure that was the inspiration for my necklace choice.

C. I love this dress. It makes me feel a little Swedish.

D. Teaching library instruction sessions to summer school students is awesome. Seriously, they were actually enthusiastic and laughed at my jokes. Summer school students are actually better than regular term students.

E. I have a party to go to where coconut cake and burritos will be served. Heaven.

Purple rain

It alternated between overcast, rainy, and sunny today.  Luckily, it did not rain while I was riding my bike to and from work (it's National Bike to Work day!!).  I had another reference shift and a meeting with the head of instruction to plan some projects for the summer so I felt that I needed to be a bit classier.  And why do I not wear this dress every week?!!  It languishes in my closet for months and months at a time because I forget about it.

In other news, it is very hot outside so I finally caved and cranked up the air conditioner.  Now I am in my pjs, glass of wine in hand, Buffy on dvd (the hilarious season 7 episode where Andrew narrates on camcorder), and formulating cookie baking plans for this week.  At work today someone showed me this recipe for Oreo stuffed Chocolate Chip cookies.  Then I came home and saw this equally delicious homemade Oreo recipe on the Black Apple blog.  Maybe I should make them both?  In any case, I take it as a cookie baking sign from above.  Good thing I am biking to work so I can bike off the extra calories!!

I want to ride my bicycle

Via Flickr:
Blue Bike: My mom's old Schwinn

White ruffle top: Old Navy

Gladiator sandals: American Eagle

Today was my first reference shift of the summer and was, surprisingly, not horribly slow: A lot of questions about fines and fun summer reading. Add in the fact that it was a gorgeous day and I got to ride my bike to work means that today was almost perfect (I will get to the almost part at the end of my tale).

I got this bike basket for a late birthday present and installed it yesterday. It bounces around quite a bit during the ride but it holds about 5 books plus my tote easily. I like being my own handyman- it's nice to look at my bike and be proud of putting that basket on.

I took this picture after work before I joined up with some friends for a delicious Mexican dinner.

Here's the almost part: after returning from said dinner, full of margaritas and tacos, I was in my kitchen doing dishes and feeling virtuous when the lighting fixture randomly detached from the ceiling, hit me on the shoulder and smashed into a million pieces on the floor. Luckily, the maintenance people are very quick at responding so I can get someone to take a look at it tomorrow but man, what a scary frightening bummer!

Shorts weather!

Via Flickr:
Turquoise cardigan: Merona
Olive tank top: American Eagle
Black bermuda shorts: Old Navy
Black flats: Steve Madden

Yesterday I needed an outfit that would transition from 85 degrees outside to freezing cold (typical summer library temperature. Brr). I just stuffed this bright cardigan in my bag and voila: instant warmth. I am also in love with these black bermuda shorts- I have had them for years and they dress up and dress down so nicely! From work to our end of the year work party. It was a dip contest, which is pretty exciting as I love dip!!  I made this amazing fruit dip.

Today I wore this more casual outfit (still turquoise loaded though) because I had my last shift of the semester and now I am getting ready to visit a friend.

Turquoise boyfriend tee: Mossimo
Skinny Jeans: Old Navy
Navy polka dot scarf: Old Navy
Gladiator sandals: American Eagle

And on that note, I will be on a self-imposed hiatus for a week.  I start my summer shifts next Thursday but throughout the summer I only work two days a week.  So I will only document those outfits as the rest of my summer wear is a basic shorts and tank boring uniform.

Librarian Birthday!!

Turquoise stone necklace: Target

Today is my birthday and so far I have had a wonderful day. It started out with Starbucks and fun reading. Then I finally got my hair cut (the hair cut I wanted a year ago, but instead got a really short cut that I have been growing out for a year. Yuck!). Then I did a little shopping and had lunch. Now I am relaxing with season 5 of Buffy (my favorite season- Spike!) before BBQ with friends. Oh, and a late night reference shift.

All my favorite things, including the coral and turquoise combination. It's my staple summer color combo and it felt essential as it is currently 85 degree here!!

Finals Week Fun

The end is in sight!! I am done with school work and basically just have reference work this week. The irony here is that I now can devote my full attention to the desk (instead of trying to do homework) and this week will be so painfully slow. At this point of the semester students have done most of their research and just need to get their work done. I will basically be answering a million phone calls about where the book drop is and late fee policies as well as finding that last minute statistic or article. I hope.

Anyways, since I still I have work, I still get to put together some decent looking work clothes (instead of the shorts and tank I wear at my sweltering hot apartment).

I am good at putting together fall and winter outfits but struggle with summer work clothes somewhat. That will be my challenge, besides reading a lot of for fun books and organizing.

I did get a head start by organizing all of my work related training handouts (on the reference interview, on different databases, on circulation policies, etc.).  Organization is a beautiful thing.

Thursday was crazy exhausting and thusly I didn't realize until today that I didn't post yesterday's outfit.  Which was a pity because it turned out better than I thought it would.  Although looking at my cataloged pictures made me realize that this has definitely been a turquoise week.  I'm not ashamed; I am owning it. Turquoise is my feel good power color and, during finals, I need all the help I can get!!

It looks to be a lovely weekend.  I just handed in my finalized (hopefully I can avoid the temptation to continue to agonize over every detail and edit it) cataloging portfolio, am officially done with class, I have an awesome BBQ to attend, my parents are coming to visit tomorrow, and I have plenty of homemade chocolate chip cookies.  Summer, I like you already.

Casual Wednesday

Via Flickr:
Cardigan: Merona
Purple v-neck tee: Zine
Skinny jeans: Old Navy
Navy Sneakers: Keds
Timepiece necklace: Etsy

Not really loving this outfit but I find I am not as critical when I am not actually teaching or at the reference desk. I think it might of looked a bit better if I didn't roll up my pants, but to be fair it was hot on the bus and every bit helped. All I had today was: work at home on my cataloging project (almost done!), get drinks with work friends, and last online class of the semester (whoot!).

Now, a dinner and Buffy break (mainly to sober up a bit- it's dangerous when you don't have to drive because you take the bus!) before doing some laundry and checked my fixed fields. Pretty awesome!!

Mushroom caps

I was inspired by my little red and white mushroom plant decoration you see behind me. Brown and red seemed a natural combo for a shady and mildly chilly day- mushrooms hang out in shaded spots, you know.

I think I am also ready for some chill behavior as well. I have successfully wrapped up 2 of my 3 classes and only my pesky cataloging portfolio remains. It's basically done; it just needs a lengthy mistake check. I just need a bit of motivation to make it through to Friday. Unfortunately, I have already moved into summer mode by listening to a freak ton of old TAL podcasts and rewatching Buffy. Yeah, that is helping me get homework done.

One thing I love- being able to work the reference desk without homework looming over me. It's nice not being startled by patrons because I am deep in reading- I am actually able to catch someone's eye as they are in the process of walking over. I also feel more relaxed about helping people.

Blue like the sea

Via Flickr:
Book: A Fairly Honorable Defeat
Turquoise jersey dress: Forever 21
Navy Cardigan: Aeropostale
Belt: Target
Gray tights: Target
Boots: Famous Footwear

Today was much cooler than expected (temps are fluctuating so much here!) that I originally just wore this dress and some sandals and had to run back into my apartment for a cardigan and tights. On one hand, I can't wait for summer and summer weather. On the other hand, I am a sucker for tights and boots!

This is the week before finals for us and it is looking like a painfully slow week. All I really have to do is my cataloging portfolio (which will really only take a few days to scan for errors). Work is slow because students are just in study mode right now. However, I don't mind the slowness- this semester has been super hectic so it is nice to feel calm and collected. Also, we finally got our summer hours. I can't wait to work a few hours at the reference desk, help with instruction stuff for next year, and read awesome books (what is finals week for, if not planning your summer reading list!) poolside with homemade lemonade.
